Yesterday we did an intake for a young mom with two young son’s that had lost her job. It turned out that she had been looking for IHN because she remembered being in our program with her mother and father as a child and she remembered that her siblings and she felt safe, nurtured and were happy here. She wanted to find that kind of program to help her and the children succeed getting back into their own home and back to work. She was thrilled when she found out that what she was looking for is now Family Promise of Las Vegas, formerly known as IHN, Interfaith Hospitality Network.
This morning the new guest mom came to my doorway, holding a picture she had taken off of a shelf in our living room at the day center. She could barely get the words out through her tears. “this is me” she said. She showed me one of the pictures I had placed on the shelf here at the day center. She told me she had been praying that God would help her find IHN because she knew we could help her help herself. She remembered how we helped her parents. It turns out this is the only existing photo of her childhood as all were lost years ago in a move. She told me that it is as if her childhood photo was waiting for her here should she ever need our help. We are down one photo now in our living room as I gave it to her.
