Western Oregon University Helps Family Promise of Las Vegas

Students from Western Oregon University sought out Family Promise and came to Las Vegas to perform an alternative spring break. All across the nation College Students are spending their springs breaks in communities assisting non-profit organizations provide services to people in need. In Las Vegas, WOU worked with Family Promise, Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, Andre Agassi Boys and Girls Club, Lutheran Social Services and The Las Vegas Catholic Worker. They also visited the As-Sabur Mosque on Morgan Street, talking to local Muslims about the work they do in our community.

Robert Williams and Michelle Eves led the group to Las Vegas and were most impressed with the work of Family Promise because of its far reach into the local communities to bring together people of all perspectives to work together for the betterment of our community. The students slept at the Lakes Lutheran Church on West Sahara with the families of Family Promise during the week so they could experience this unique sheltering system.

Williams and Eves led the students daily as they set out to experience non-profit work in the city of Las Vegas. They cannot wait to come back next year.
