May 5, 2006 - Family Promise holds 10th Year Anniversary Celebration & Benefit Concert
Can you imagine having to live in a cardboad box each night, as many homeless families do in these United States? We, at Family Promise wanted to make a statement about how our families (guests) have had to endure hardships on their way back from the brink of homelessness. To do this, we created Cardboard City, a part of the event designed to uniquely bring awareness of homeless needs to our community and to assist Family Promise in our strategic plan to develop a transitional housing solution. Participants (we called them "Citizens") used a cardboad box as their "home" for the evening. To become more aware of homelessness, they stayed one night and woke up the following morning with an appreciation for the support and shelter provided through Family Promise. Citizen received a ticket to our concert, a commemorative Tee-Shirt, and a place to set up their box "home". Benefactors and Corporate sponsors were invited to donate through the "purchase" of land (Lots or Communities) in the City.
Visitors (non-Citizens who did not stay the night) roamed the grounds, visited our display booths, joined in at the Silent Auction, enjoyed the entertainment on the grounds, and saw the City. |
